Explore the bedrooms

There are six bespoke bedrooms with 12 beds, to comfortably sleep sixteen people.  Each themed room is named after one of the many varieties of birds who regularly visit the  surrounding Healthy Home Retreat garden; a wildlife oasis that has been lovingly  created over the last 50 years. Local artist Fenella Archer has designed and painted an original bird watercolour for each room.

One – Robin

Bedroom One is large, brightly-coloured room known as Robin, and is located above the farmhouse kitchen in Walkers Cottage.  It’s a twin with two deep, comfortable single beds The mullioned windows overlook the tranquil front gardens.  Both beds have Nikken magnetic technology mattresses for great sleep (specially designed mattresses with no metal springs). All bedrooms have towels and hairdryers supplied. 

Two – Peacock

Bedroom two is found in the oldest part of the house, which together with the underneath Dining Room was the original Peel House. It is thought to date back to the early 1300s, when Northern farmers dwelled on the first floor of their fortified home, above livestock housed below.

A double-aspect room, with extensive views to the rear over the Yorkshire Dales to Bradley, the Peacock also overlooks the peace and beauty of the well-stocked front gardens.

The King bed has a Nikken magnetic wellness mattress and enjoys uninterrupted views across the valley.  The single bed doubles as a daybed/settee when not needed, reverting to a single bed, with a Cool Blue Diamond foam mattress, without metal springs. This room can be a family room, with extra space for a cot.


Three – Partridge

Bedroom Three is the first of three bedrooms located in the old barn and is called Partridge.

From the mullion window, you can see the mature Pear Tree growing up against the front of the house from the Dining Terrace. 

Once a derelict hay loft, this room is situated above the  Tea Parlour, which once held the original cattle milking stalls.  This is now a family suite, complete with it’s own en-suite shower room and  three comfortable beds.

Both the King bed and one  single are Cool Blue Diamond foam mattresses without metal springs, known for extra comfort.   The second single is a standard deeply-sprung mattress. There is also a TV with DVD player with a selection of children’s movies. *This is also where our Teddy Bear Sanctuary is located.

Four – Lapwing

Bedroom Four is called Lapwing, a bird that is also known as a Tewit, which gives the house it’s old name ‘Tewit Cote’ or Lapwing Cottage.

This is a twin room with two single beds. It is a good choice of room for older children who do not need to share with parents. This room is between Bedrooms 3 and 5, and above the Barn TV lounge. It has a skylight window, with views of starry skies on clear, dark nights.

  One Single is a Nikken magnetic wellness mattress, the other is a Cool Blue Diamond foam mattress, both without metal springs.

The closest shower & WC is on the landing outside the room next to Bedroom 5. There is a shower room in the Barn and also in the Hall, in the New Building.


Five – Dove

Bedroom Five is called Dove and being tucked away above the Barn Lounge, it has been called the “Secret Bedroom”. The bedroom features the original historic barn walls. The old rafters have been used on the lower wall panel next to the bed. A light and airy room, with a skylight for romantic star gazing, if the weather permits, and a deep mullion with an enviable view of the front entrance leading into the wildflower meadow, where 100 one-foot high pine trees were planted in 1998. Forty seven of them successfully grew from saplings and are now over 20 feet high and make up the wooded border in the field. – Find the path and take a walk through this magical field.

The mattress is a lovely Tempur bed, without metal springs. There is a shower adjacent just outside the room.

Six – Goldfinch

You have a view over the front entrance and the wildflower meadow and woodland. Goldfinch is a good room if a little more privacy is required. This room is furthest from the kitchen and dining area,  and nearest to the top entrance hall (below the bedroom).Together with the adjacent bathroom it forms a semi- private suite. The double bed has a deep, posture sprung mattress.   This rooms opens onto the Panorama Lounge, both situated on the first floor of the “New Building”, above the room known as both the Party Room and Yoga Space.


Panorama

The Panorama Suite can be used as a private lounge space, connecting with Bedroom 6 to make a more secluded, private, luxury suite. Alternatively, it can be enjoyed as a second lounge area where guests can soak up the stunning panoramic sunsets over the Yorkshire Dales through large floor patio-style windows. 

 The sofa converts to a double bed, plus additional space for an extra guest bed on request.(Luxury airbed) 

There are privacy curtains for screening if  the sofa bed is in use. The space is treated as a small apartment, sharing a bathroom with Bedroom 6.

An ideal space for  Retreat Host’s private accommodation, or a separate, private area for therapies or holistic treatments during retreats or wellbeing gatherings.
